Through personal experiences and shared insights from other filmmakers I realized there are 7 common mistakes making films that can be avoided. It is worthwhile, friendly advice on making films that you put them down, in the mud and sour could keep increasing. The film industry is one of the most exciting companies in. What makes it one of the most difficult to thrive in is 7 most common mistakes that kill a project and sour on the deal.

One. The ill-conceived script

Uncontrolled passion, drive and desire to commit to make a film, a writer, producing work that do not lead. There is no way a poorly thought-out writer on the set or in post to fix it, if you make it that far. Final Draft software is fantastic, but remember that old school computer expression “GIGO” that maybe Tim Beachum marked. Screenwriting Software helps only format the script with links. What is on the side within the working range budget.

If you are an “X amount” to your budget film, it is critical, a writer who comments on this base, “X amount.” Avoid moving forward on preparing a script, your budget can not support. It’s great to think big, but in real life you have to stick to a budget. If you break the script, editing characters, scenes and places that you do not need or no budget.

Two. Burning The Production Budget

Once the film comes through avoiding generous support from the gate and piss away money on euphoria. It is a great temptation to burn through money on physical shooting, when actors and crew on the set are. Every single dollar is spent wasted look like a $ 100, as you get closer to finishing the movie.

Treat your budget, as it is the last bottle of water in the Sonoran Desert, you have to walk. Sip that water. Never think you’ll come across other water source until you get where you need to be a finished film. Treat every money you spend, as it is the last in his pocket. Do you leave it.

Three. Untreated actors and crew with respect

If you pay people, it is a natural tendency to their commitment to a project is given a feeling. But if you do not treat actors and crew in respect of some time on the road when you get this extra effort, you will not have to get. People talk about professional and never disappoint her personal feelings get in the way of their work.

This is a utopian idea that sounds good, but not a reality. If you treat them bad actors and crew are not their best, especially when you need it most. Disaster was on one shoot can be avoided, because an actor was Jesse James Youngblood on set half a day longer than he would pay. He could say that the scene move, but he persevered and the film was better for them at the end.

to Director of Photography Royce Dudley on another shoot, that was a hell of a day of equipment problems, they put themselves beyond the call of duty. Respect is what it happened. Give respect – get respect. Or release problem actors and crew from the project. It is an old fairy tale called women, but one bad apple spoils the bunch is human nature.

Four. Trying to be perfect

It is important to trust in themselves and film have, but ruthless ego to ruin the project. It is impossible to be perfect and all the right calls. If sound advice is given, take it. Trust the people you hired to have your movie. Acting is like you know how each individual task, it needs to do to make a film, is madness. If you have a 100 million dollar budget, will come off when people try to be perfect.

Five. Taking The Leap Of Faith can fix edit any production problem

Editors and sound engineers, a whole heck of a lot to do to look like your finished movie to make it better. What do they not do is solve every problem that was filmed on the set. “You can not make chicken salad from chicken shit.” I’ve been on film sets, where people say, get up, the hair on the neck and arms, as when I saw the two girls in scary The Shining “, come play with” We can do it in the post-fix. ” us – for ever and ever and ever “I freaked out big time.

I have the same reaction when filmmakers too much trust in the mail. Get the best performance, image quality and sound on the set, without thinking post. Post can be a shortcut to a safety net for filmmakers. Get what you need to get during the shooting. Green or blue screen stuff is still better if you got good stuff on camera. Hollywood known as Big-budget special effects studios depend, to hide mistakes. Without this kind of money, your work has to be carried out locally.

Take the risk of assuming that what you will be taken on the set, what you are working with in the post.

Six. Not the advantages of SEO for filmmakers

I thought SEO marketing was to sell products to BS. Like the people you stop at a liquor store that have knock-off perfume, watches and gold jewelry that has no gold in it. My mind has changed now to see how many large companies use Facebook to promote. Any commercial company to operate large, a social network for pointing you join. This is 100% SEO in pure action.

Filmmakers that the standard formula of creating a Flash site that is too busy to be not to connect with the audience. Let people know about you and your movie with social networking, article directories, and a blog. I know that is nothing new for many filmmakers. But with other filmmakers who think more because they made a movie people will find it online could help them.

Seven. No distribution plan

Look at every single way possible that you think your film can be sold. This gives you an idea do you sell all rights in advance for a certain amount, sign a contract, or sell your film by self-distribution. In a buy-out of a sales company is smart move. It is similar to flip a house. You know your profit margin on the film. The New Deal for future profits gets more involved. One has to take them at their word, how much has benefited your film for them.

It was hilarious to me in a movie where the distribution company sent a royalty statement that they sold tons of units, but showed the royal “we” lost money shipping and Circuit City do not pay BK etc. etc. etc. As with any signed to meet or shake hands, it is only as good as the people involved. This company is not good. Other offers I’ve had have been excellent.

A noble sales company in the course of our deal has a higher price from the retailers on their entire product and sent me the difference on each unit of mine who sells via UPS. Shocked the hell out of me, that open and see a check. Most dealers give a discount to larger retailers. I was surprised they took the time and effort to me as an indie producer, that its four major markets was down from 5% discount, but know 2%.

Self-distribution takes work. It is the freedom to sell your product online without a distributor. It is to boil down to marketing, SEO to let viewers know that your movie is to live. If you have a no-budget film, the chances are going to a distribution are slim to none. Once you know you can as a filmmaker is to plan with a large spread. The Internet will be your lifeline margin.
